The book, whether fiction or poetry, essay, must involve more than the intelligence and sensitivity of the reader. When a book of poetry or prose, a sentence, a word, takes you back to other images, other memories, causing great circuit, then, only then shines the value of a text. Like a painting or sculpture monument that text will enrich not only immediate but will outline the essence.
Giulio Einaudi
Each player, when he reads, sees himself. The work of the writer is only a kind of optical instrument that is offered to enable the reader to discern what, without book, it might have seen in himself.
Marcel Proust
